A Good till triggered (GTT) order, as the name suggests, is not executed until all conditions are met to trigger the order. On HDFC Sky, the maximum validity for GTT is one year. A GTT order can only be placed for delivery trades.
Let us understand with an example. You want to buy Nestle India shares but only after the price falls to Rs. 19,000. It is currently trading at Rs.19,755 and no one knows when it will fall to the 19,000 level. You also do not have the time to track the stock’s every move.
In such a scenario, you can place a GTT order with the trigger price and buy price. The order will be triggered only when the stock price falls to the trigger price and executed when the buy price is reached.
To place a GTT order, search for the stock and add it to Market Watch. Then hover over the stock and select B for placing a buy order. Enter the trigger price and buy price and click on Buy. Your order will be sent to the system and triggered when conditions are met.
GTT order can also be used to exit an existing position. Suppose you have Nestle India shares and you think it is close to your target price and you want to sell them when a certain price is reached. With a Sell order, you can similarly place a sell GTT order to exit the position.
