How to transfer shares to the HDFC SKY account from other CDSL demat account using CDSL Easiest?

PART A: REGISTRATION ON CDSL EASIEST

Step 1: Register at CDSL Easiest by clicking here.

Important: Enter the DP ID and Client ID of the broker from where you wish to transfer the shares. Do not enter the details of SKY here.

Step 2: You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: On Account Details, enter your preferred username and a security Q&A. Make sure you check the “Trusted Account (Pin)” box before you click Continue.

Step 4: Enter a Trusted Account [This is a CDSL account where you want to transfer shares].

This is where you will enter your SKY Demat Account. (Refer Pro Tip 2)

Step 5: Group your BO IDs [Optional]

You can add any BO IDs available in the pre-approved list. These will be your CDSL demat accounts with other depository participants. However, if no pre-approved accounts exist, you can skip this step.

Step 6: Your Registration is now complete!

Once your registration is complete, the validation will take 24-48 working hours. You will be able to transfer shares using CDSL easiest after the validation has been completed.

Pro Tip 3: Look out for a mail from easiadmin@cdslindia.co.in- it will contain the password

to login to the platform. Note this down, along with the preferred username you had set in Step 3 above.

PART B: ADD A BENEFICIARY TO CDSL

This is a new step that has been added by CDSL from January 2024. Kindly make sure you’ve completed PART B before you move forward with PART C.

This is to inform you that, CDSL (your depository of shares) has made some important changes to their Share Transfer framework. With reference to the latest CDSL Circular 5, you are now required to ‘Add Beneficiary’ before initiating any share transfers.

Kindly note - In case share transfer is initiated without adding a beneficiary - the transfer will not be validated by CDSL and it will be unsuccessful.

Let us now understand the process of adding a new beneficiary to our CDSL Easi / Easiest account -

Step 1: Log into your CDSL Easiest Account.

Step 2: Once you’re done logging into your CDSL Easi / Easiest account - Click on ‘Transactions’. From the drop-down kindly click on ‘BO Linking’ then further click on ‘BO Linking setup’.

Step 3: You should be on this page now - In this step you would need to enter the Buyer Account’s (the account holder to whom the shares are being sent) BOID and PAN Card Number.

P.S. - You may also select the PAN exemption flag (if applicable - only residents of Sikkim state) in this step.

BOID - is a unique 16 digit number which is allocated to each demat account holder. The first 8 digits are the DP ID ( this denotes ID of your broker. In our case SKY’s DP ID is 12083400) and the last 8 digits are unique to the demat account holder.

You can find your SKY BOID in the Profile section.

Upon completing this step - you will receive a link on your registered Mobile Number (SMS) and Email ID to validate your request. It would look something like this -

Step 4: Upon clicking on the first link in the image above, it will redirect you to the CDSL Website. In this step you would be required to enter the PAN or BOID of the Seller Account (the account holder who is transferring the share).

Kindly note - In case you have multiple demat accounts linked with the same PAN, you would need to enter both PAN and BOID (of the Seller Account) in this step.

Step 5: Upon entering the PAN and BOID - it will show you the following details:

●  Seller BOID

●  Seller PAN

●  Buyer BOID

●  Buyer PAN

Kindly make sure to check and verify if these credentials are correct.

If the details are correct then click on the ‘Generate OTP’ button. This will send an OTP to your registered Mobile Number and Email ID. Enter the OTP in the field provided below and click the ‘Accept’ button. This will initiate the process of mapping your Beneficiary to your CDSL Easiest Account.

Also at this step you may choose to cancel the request of adding a beneficiary in case any of the aforementioned details turn out to be incorrect. You can cancel the request by clicking on the ‘Reject’ button, which is right next to the ‘Accept’ button.

If you clicked “Accept” then this was the last step - you have successfully completed the steps to add a beneficiary to your CDSL. You can now proceed with PART C.

PART C: SHARE TRANSFER TO SKY

Now that you have successfully registered at CDSL Easiest, we can begin the share transfer process.

Step 1: Login to CDSL Easiest by clicking here.

Select the ones you want to transfer, select the quantity and the reason for trade as “Transfer to own account(s)”.

Step 6: You can see the ISIN details here. Now, you need to click on ‘Submit’ to set up.

Step 7: On submission, you will get this message. Next, you need to verify your request.

Step 8: Click on Verify.

Step 9: Click on Commit.

Note: You needn’t fill in the Exchange ID, CounterParty Exchange ID, Market Type, Counterparty Market Type, Settlement ID and Counter Settlement ID for off-market transactions.

Step 10: Enter your CDSL Easiest PIN.

Note: This is not your 6-digit numeric CDSL TPIN. It is an 8-digit alphanumeric PIN that you would have received on your registered email id when you registered on CDSL easiest.

With this final step, your share transfer request is finally done!

This is now sent to your old broker for confirmation. On confirmation, the request is approved and the transfer will be done. If your request is not approved within a 24-48 hour window, kindly follow up with your existing broker.

A few clarifications:

(1) Transfer can happen between individual accounts only.
(2) Certain brokers will charge you a nominal fee per company that you want to transfer out. Kindly get in touch with your broker for the same as you may need to maintain necessary balance in your ledger.
(3) Once the transfer is complete, the cost price of your holdings will not get updated.

Move to SKY today. Our team is always here to guide you.
